Amundi Trims Its Stake in First Solar as Shares Rally

French asset manager Amundi has reduced its equity position in First Solar, Inc. (NASDAQ: FSLR), according to a filing report circulated by MarketBeat. The disclosure comes as the thin-film solar manufacturer’s stock trades sharply higher in Tuesday’s session.

First Solar shares were changing hands at $215.04, up 5.32% from the previous close of $204.18, putting the company’s market capitalization at roughly $23.1 billion. The Tempe, Arizona–based company sits in the technology sector’s solar industry and designs, manufactures, and sells photovoltaic (PV) modules — panels that convert sunlight directly into electricity — using thin-film semiconductor technology rather than the crystalline silicon used by most competitors.

Institutional ownership moves like Amundi’s are closely followed by market participants because large asset managers’ 13F and related filings offer a periodic window into how professional money is positioned across publicly traded companies. A reduction in a position can reflect portfolio rebalancing, risk management, or a change in the manager’s outlook; filings alone do not reveal the reasoning behind the trade. Amundi remains one of Europe’s largest asset managers, and its disclosures are tracked alongside those of other major holders of First Solar stock.

First Solar operates manufacturing footprints and sells its PV solutions across the United States, France, India, Chile, and other international markets. The company is a prominent player in the utility-scale solar segment, where developers procure modules for large power projects connected to the grid. Thin-film technology, First Solar’s specialty, uses semiconductor layers deposited on glass, an approach the company says offers certain performance and manufacturing advantages compared with conventional panel designs.

Shares of solar manufacturers have drawn heightened attention in recent years as governments and utilities expand procurement of renewable generation capacity. First Solar’s stock movement on the day — a gain of more than 5% — illustrates the sector’s sensitivity to broader market sentiment, project demand signals, and policy developments affecting clean-energy deployment.

Neither First Solar nor Amundi has commented publicly on the position change beyond the standard regulatory disclosure.

What to watch

  • First Solar’s next quarterly earnings report and any updates to full-year shipment and margin guidance.
  • Subsequent institutional 13F filings that show how other large holders have adjusted FSLR positions.
  • Announcements on new module manufacturing capacity or utility-scale supply agreements.
