Enphase Expands Into AI Data Center Power With Texas-Made Solid-State Transformer Modules

Enphase Energy, long known for its home solar microinverters, is stepping into the data center power market with a new product line: IQ solid-state transformer modules, built at its Texas manufacturing operations and aimed at the fast-growing electricity demands of AI computing facilities.

Solid-state transformers replace traditional iron-core transformer hardware with semiconductor-based conversion, allowing finer control over voltage and power quality. For data center operators, where dense racks of AI accelerators strain distribution systems, that precision matters — power conversion efficiency and reliability are central operating concerns. The move marks a diversification for Enphase Energy, whose core business has been residential solar and battery systems in the United States and internationally.

Domestic manufacturing is also part of the pitch. Producing the modules in Texas positions the company to serve U.S. hyperscale and enterprise data center developers who increasingly prioritize domestically sourced electrical equipment for supply-chain and procurement reasons.

The announcement comes at a challenging stretch for the company’s shares. ENPH closed the previous session at $38.96 and was trading at $38.83 in the latest session, down 0.34%, valuing the company at roughly $5.16 billion. Classified in the technology sector within the solar industry, Enphase has been working to broaden its product footprint beyond rooftop photovoltaics, and data center power represents an adjacent application of its power-electronics engineering base.

Data center electrical infrastructure has become one of the most competitive frontiers in the energy-adjacent hardware space, as electricity demand from AI training and inference clusters continues to climb. Vendors with semiconductor conversion expertise — an area where Enphase has deep experience from its microinverter business — have a plausible technical runway into that market, though commercial traction in data centers typically depends on certification cycles, utility interconnection requirements, and long procurement timelines that differ sharply from residential solar.

The company has not detailed pricing, capacity, or customer commitments for the new modules, so the size of the opportunity remains to be seen.

What to watch

  • Customer or pilot announcements naming data center operators or engineering firms adopting the IQ modules
  • Upcoming earnings calls, where management commentary on the data center product line and Texas production volumes would be expected
  • Any product certifications or standards listings relevant to data center power distribution
  • Updates on capital allocation, including whether Texas manufacturing capacity is being expanded for the new product
