SLB OneSubsea Secures Umbilicals Work for Agogo FPSO Tie-Back Project

SLB OneSubsea, the subsea production systems joint venture operated by SLB, has been contracted to supply controls umbilicals for the Agogo floating production, storage and offloading (FPSO) vessel integration, according to a report by Ocean News & Technology.

Controls umbilicals are the armored cables and hoses that link a floating production vessel to subsea equipment on the seafloor, carrying the hydraulic, electrical, and chemical signals needed to operate subsea trees and manifolds. They are typically among the final hardware items installed during the “hookup” phase, when an FPSO is connected to its subsea infrastructure ahead of first production.

The Agogo development is located in Angola’s Block 15/06, a west African deepwater hub where floating production vessels have been progressively tied into existing subsea infrastructure. Umbilical delivery for a hookup scope generally follows fabrication of the subsea hardware and precedes system commissioning, meaning the award points to a project moving through its later integration stages rather than early construction.

For SLB, the contract sits within the subsea-focused portion of its portfolio, which spans production hardware, flow assurance, and digital monitoring services for offshore operators. Shares of SLB were trading at $57.10 in the latest session, up 0.18% from the prior close of $57.00, giving the company a market capitalization of roughly $84.7 billion.

Deepwater offshore activity has been a consistent area of capital spending among international oil companies in recent years, and equipment suppliers such as SLB OneSubsea compete for these awards based on delivery schedules, track record with specific floating vessel designs, and compatibility with previously installed subsea control systems. The Agogo tie-back is one of several Angolan projects in the development pipeline where floating production capacity is being expanded through additional subsea tiebacks rather than newbuild facilities.

The company did not disclose financial terms of the umbilicals award in the publicly available report.

What to watch

  • SLB’s upcoming quarterly earnings report and any commentary on subsea order backlog and international offshore awards
  • Announcements regarding FPSO hookup milestones and first oil timing for the Agogo development
  • Additional subsea equipment awards in Angola’s Block 15/06 as the hub expands
