Refiner PBF Energy Draws Analyst Spotlight in Zacks’ Daily Bull-and-Bear Feature

Shreveport-headquartered refiner PBF Energy (NYSE: PBF) landed in the analyst spotlight this week, named the “Bull of the Day” in Zacks Investment Research’s recurring feature that pairs one favored name with one out-of-favor counterpart. Homebuilder Lennar was assigned the bear designation in the same writeup.

Zacks’ Bull and Bear of the Day series is a widely read daily note in which the research firm highlights a stock it views positively based on its quantitative screens and one it sees facing headwinds. While the feature reflects one research shop’s perspective, it often generates investor attention for the companies involved.

For PBF Energy, the recognition comes as shares have been on the move. The stock closed recently at $76.77, up 3.32% from the prior close of $74.30, valuing the independent refiner at roughly $9.1 billion in market capitalization. PBF operates a downstream portfolio of refineries across the United States — the “downstream” segment of the oil and gas value chain, where crude oil is processed into gasoline, diesel, and other refined products.

Refining profitability is closely tied to crack spreads — the margin between what refiners pay for crude input and what they earn on finished product sales — which fluctuate with crude costs, seasonal demand, and regional supply dynamics. Independent refiners like PBF are particularly sensitive to those swings, making the sector a frequent subject of analyst commentary when market conditions shift.

The bullish designation follows Zacks’ quantitative ranking methodology, which incorporates earnings estimate revisions and other factors. Readers should note that such designations represent a single analyst view rather than a consensus.

PBF Energy’s shares and the broader refining group will remain in focus as earnings season progresses, with investors watching how margins and utilization rates shape near-term results.

What to watch

  • PBF Energy’s upcoming quarterly earnings report and any updates to full-year guidance.
  • Trends in refining crack spreads and refinery utilization rates across PBF’s operating regions.
  • Whether analyst estimate revisions for PBF continue to move following the Zacks feature.
