The pullback arrives just days before Bloom’s scheduled addition to the S&P 500 index.
Bloom Energy designs and installs solid oxide fuel cell systems for on-site power generation, with its Bloom Energy Server converting fuels such as natural gas, biogas, and hydrogen into electricity. The company, classified in the industrials sector under electrical equipment and parts, now carries a market capitalization of roughly $83.2 billion.
The retreat follows a period of elevated interest in fuel cell makers as potential suppliers of on-site power for AI data centers, where grid interconnection delays have pushed operators to consider distributed generation. That theme had lifted several names in the sector, making Monday’s unwind notable in magnitude.
Fellow hydrogen and fuel cell companies also moved sharply. FuelCell Energy declined 6.11% to $16.57 from a prior close of $17.65, leaving its market cap near $1.32 billion.
Plug Power bucked the trend, gaining 4.67% to $2.26 from a prior close of $2.16, bringing its market capitalization to about $3.16 billion. The divergence from its two peers underscores how unevenly the AI-power narrative has been applied across the hydrogen industry.
