Enphase’s IQ Meter Collar Reaches 80 Utility Approvals Across US and Canada

Enphase Energy said its IQ Meter Collar has now secured approvals from roughly 80 utilities in the United States and Canada, a milestone that widens the addressable market for the company’s home energy hardware. The collar is designed to let homeowners pair solar and battery systems with existing electrical panels without a full panel replacement, a step that can otherwise add cost and permitting time to residential installations.

Utility-by-utility approval is a key gating factor in residential solar. Interconnection rules, metering configurations, and safety requirements vary across service territories, so each clearance effectively opens a new pool of installers and customers for Enphase’s microinverter-based ecosystem. Broader approval coverage can shorten the sales cycle for installers who operate across multiple jurisdictions.

The announcement comes as Enphase Energy (NASDAQ: ENPH) navigates a soft stretch in residential solar demand. Shares traded at $36.72, down 5.75% from the prior close of $38.96, valuing the company at roughly $5.16 billion. The California-based company, classified in the solar industry within the technology sector, designs and sells microinverters — semiconductor-based devices that convert direct current from individual solar panels into grid-compatible alternating current — along with batteries and related energy management products.

Products like the IQ Meter Collar reflect a broader push among residential solar suppliers to reduce installed system costs and installation friction. By simplifying the interface between a home’s solar-plus-storage setup and the utility meter, such hardware can lower labor time on the roof and at the panel, two of the more expensive stages of a residential installation.

Expanding utility approval lists also matters for battery adoption, since backup and export configurations often face stricter interconnection review than solar-only systems. Wider pre-approval can reduce the paperwork installers face when commissioning hybrid systems.
