Equinor ASA EQNR, a Norwegian integrated energy company, has signed a five-year agreement with the Dutch energy firm Eneco for the supply of natural gas. This marks the third supply agreement between the two companies this year. Per the terms of the agreement, EQNR will deliver about 9 terawatt-hours (TWh) of natural gas per year, which is equivalent to nearly 0.9 billion cubic meters (bcm), from the Norwegian Continental Shelf (“NCS”) to the power grid in the Netherlands.
The natural gas supplies associated with this contract began on Oct. 1, 2026. However, the financial details of the deal have not been disclosed yet. The agreement between Equinor and Eneco also includes a provision to track the environmental attributes and greenhouse gas emissions of the Norwegian natural gas being supplied. The agreement stated that Eneco can track its origin and monitor the greenhouse gas emissions generated, using a digital platform operated by Attributes SA. Equinor highlighted that the natural gas supplied under this agreement has an 11.8% lower lifecycle greenhouse gas footprint than the Dutch grid average.
The deal highlights Equinor’s importance in the European gas market. EQNR is a leading supplier of piped gas to Europe, playing a critical role in the region’s energy security. For Eneco, the deal will allow it to provide a reliable natural gas supply from the NCS to residents in the Netherlands, while taking into account its upstream emissions footprint.
