Chevron Eyes 150% EPS Jump on Oct. 30 — But Are the Risks Already Priced In?

Published:

Chevron has beaten consensus seven quarters in a row and analysts are forecasting triple-digit earnings growth, yet the last blowout quarter sent the stock down. Find out what will actually move shares when results drop October 30.

Chevron (NYSE:CVX | CVX Price Prediction) reports third-quarter results on Oct. 30, and the stock is up 57.27% year to date. Analysts see a steep earnings rebound from a weak year-ago quarter. What I want to know is how much of that is already in the share price.

Record Volumes Meet Triple-Digit Brent

Last quarter, Chevron posted adjusted EPS of $6.06, its 7th consecutive consensus beat. Revenue rose 51.4% year over year to $67.20 billion as Brent averaged $104 per barrel versus $68 a year earlier. Production climbed 20% to 4,070 MBOED.

The quarter threw off a lot of cash. Free cash flow reached $18.10 billion, and Chevron cut total debt by $8.41 billion. Management also hit its $3 billion structural cost-reduction target six months early and captured $1.5 billion in Hess synergies.

Since then, shares have gained 13.48% in a month to $233.21. Analysts have raised their third-quarter EPS estimate from $4.0094 90 days ago to $4.8878.

Consensus Estimates Point to a Massive Rebound

Metric Consensus Year-Ago Actual YoY Growth Q3 2026 EPS $4.8878 $1.85 164% Q3 2026 Revenue $60.67 billion $48.17 billion 26% FY 2026 EPS $17.2857 $6.63 161% FY 2026 Revenue $239.51 billion $189.03 billion 27%

Refining Cracks and Kazakhstan Flows Will Set the Tone

Downstream made $4.87 billion last quarter, up from $737 million a year earlier. CEO Mike Wirth said “products are tighter than crude globally, which is why cracks have widened,” and he expected upward pressure on product pricing into the third quarter. The key question is whether diesel shortage kept refining margins strong.

Tengizchevroil (TCO) is the second swing factor. Its output rose 170,000 barrels a day versus the first quarter, and affiliate distributions came in at about $3 billion. Those barrels depend on the CPC pipeline through the Black Sea. On that risk, Wirth said, “I don’t think an intended, extended shutdown is a highly likely scenario.”

You should also look for an update on Project Kilby, the 2.67 gigawatt power deal with Microsoft (NASDAQ:MSFT). Management targeted a final investment decision later this year and said it was in advanced talks on more projects. Any delay would raise the execution concerns that already hang over Venezuela and Iraq.

Finally, capital discipline matters. Chevron guided full-year capex to the lower end of its $18 billion to $19 billion range. Holding that line while prices stay high would support continued debt reduction and buybacks.

Strong Numbers Already Sit in the Share Price

The stock trades at about 13x full-year EPS consensus, and the options market is bullish with a put/call ratio of 0.19. Recent history should moderate that optimism. After a 45.56% first-quarter beat, shares fell 4.73% within a week. If Chevron hits its numbers, management’s outlook for cash flow durability once oil prices cool will likely decide where the stock goes next.
