Chicago, IL – October 26, 2026 – Today, Zacks Equity Research discusses GE Vernova Inc. GEV, Constellation Energy Corp. CEG and Montauk Renewables MNTK.

Industry: Alt-Energy

The global wind power market is expected to grow steadily, driven by supportive government policies, decarbonization efforts, energy security concerns and advancements in turbine technology. Meanwhile, rising electric vehicle adoption, declining battery costs and government incentives are boosting demand for clean energy and charging infrastructure.

However, higher interest rates pose challenges for capital-intensive renewable energy projects by increasing borrowing costs, pressuring margins and potentially delaying investments. The forerunners in the U.S. alternative energy industry are GE Vernova Inc., Constellation Energy Corp. and Montauk Renewables.

About the Industry

The Zacks Alternative Energy – Other  industry can be fundamentally segregated into two sets of companies. While one group is involved in the generation and distribution of alternative energy and electricity from sources like wind, natural gas, biofuel, hydro and geothermal, the other is engaged in the development, design and installation of renewable projects involving these alternative energy sources.

The industry comprises a handful of companies offering fuel cell energy solutions, which have recently gained traction as affordable and cleaner energy alternatives. According to the International Energy Agency, global energy investments are likely to reach $3.4 trillion in 2026. Such investments provide strong growth opportunities for industry participants.

Wind Power Market Poised for Sustained Growth: The global wind power market continues to expand, driven by supportive government policies for renewable energy, rising focus on decarbonization and energy security, and improving cost competitiveness. Technological advancements, particularly the development of larger and more efficient turbines, are helping wind farms generate more electricity from existing sites while reducing production costs and enhancing project profitability.

These factors are expected to drive sustained growth in the industry over the long term. According to a Mordor Intelligence report, the United States Wind Energy Market size was valued at 161.20 GW in 2025 and is estimated to grow from 167.92 GW in 2026 to 205.93 GW by 2031, at a CAGR of 4.17% during the period.

EV Market Surge to Accelerate Clean Energy Adoption: Electric vehicle (EV) companies and charging networks are increasingly using renewable energy sources like solar and wind to power vehicles, reducing fossil fuel usage and emissions. EV adoption is being supported by governments, especially the U.S. government, via subsidies, tax credits, grants and non-cash incentives.

Another key driver is the steady decline in battery costs, which lowers the overall price of EVs and makes them more competitive with gasoline-powered cars. These factors have contributed to strong global sales growth. According to a Benchmark Mineral Intelligence report, nearly 2.15 million EVs were sold globally in September 2026, bringing year-to-date 2026 EV sales to 15.5 million.

Per a report by Grand View Research, the global EV market size is projected to grow from $2.4 trillion in 2026 to $12.6 trillion by 2033, at a CAGR of 26.7% during the period. This strong growth outlook benefits clean energy companies, particularly those that operate large EV charging networks in the United States, as rising EV adoption directly increases demand for charging infrastructure and its related services.

Higher Interest Rates Pose Challenges for Alternative Energy Growth: The Federal Reserve’s September 2026 interest rate hike, which raised the federal fund target range to 3.75-4.00%, has increased financing concerns for the alternative energy sector. Since renewable energy projects require substantial upfront capital and often depend on debt financing, higher borrowing costs can weaken project economics, pressure profit margins and delay new investments.

Capital-intensive technologies such as offshore wind, carbon capture and low-carbon hydrogen may face greater challenges due to their financial and execution risks. Even established renewable energy operators with long-term power purchase agreements may struggle to offset rising financing expenses when electricity prices are contractually fixed, potentially limiting cash flows, distributions and future growth.

Zacks Industry Rank Reflects Gloomy Outlook

The Zacks Alternative Energy industry is housed within the broader ZacksOils-Energy sector. It carries a Zacks Industry Rank #152, which places it in the bottom 38% of more than 247 Zacks industries.

The group’s Zacks Industry Rank, which is basically the average of the Zacks Ranks of all the member stocks, indicates bright near-term prospects. Our research shows that the top 50% of the Zacks-ranked industries outperform the bottom 50% by a factor of more than 2 to 1.

The industry’s position in the bottom 50% of the Zacks-ranked industries is due to a negative earnings outlook for the constituent companies in aggregate. Looking at the aggregate earnings estimate revisions, it appears that analysts have lost confidence in this group’s earnings growth potential over the past few months. The industry’s bottom-line estimate for the current fiscal year has moved down 8.9% to $2.44 since July 31.
