PSX Refining Profit Surges on Stronger Margins

Refining adjusted pre-tax income surged to $6.06 billion from $430 million in the year-ago quarter. The segment benefited from stronger market crack spreads, higher realized margins and increased processing volumes. Adjusted EBITDA reached $6.28 billion compared with $904 million a year earlier.

Worldwide realized refining margins increased to $38 per barrel from $24.08 in the preceding quarter. Stronger diesel and gasoline crack spreads across all regions and lower benchmark crude costs supported the improvement. Market capture reached 100%, while turnaround expenses declined to $79 million from $123 million in the preceding quarter.

The Central Corridor generated adjusted pre-tax income of $2.57 billion, supported by record processed inputs of 848,000 barrels per day. The Gulf Coast contributed $1.73 billion, while the Atlantic Basin/Europe and West Coast generated $1.47 billion and $287 million, respectively.

Phillips 66 Midstream Earnings Improve Year Over Year

Midstream adjusted pre-tax income increased marginally to $702 million from $697 million a year earlier. Adjusted EBITDA totaled $977 million, compared with $964 million a year earlier.

Natural gas liquids (NGL) pipeline throughput to market averaged 982,000 barrels per day (Bbl/d), compared with 999,000 Bbl/d a year earlier. Fractionation volumes increased to 1,003 thousand barrels per day (MBbl/d) from 930 MBbl/d. Wellhead volumes reached 4.6 billion cubic feet per day (Bcf/d), compared with 4.3 Bcf/d in the year ago quarter. Utilization at the Freeport LPG export dock was 105%.

PSX Chemicals Results Rise Despite Margin Pressure

Chemicals adjusted pre-tax income increased 76.7% to $311 million from $176 million in the year-ago quarter. Global olefins and polyolefins capacity utilization reached 92%, compared with 104% in the prior-year quarter. Chemicals adjusted EBITDA increased to $423 million from $308 million a year earlier, reflecting improved profitability despite sequential margin pressure.

Phillips 66 Marketing Weakens, Renewables Recover

Marketing and Specialties adjusted pre-tax income declined to $245 million from $477 million a year earlier. The sequential decrease from $514 million primarily reflected lower global marketing fuel margins amid rising product prices. Adjusted EBITDA totaled $320 million, compared with $525 million in the year-ago quarter.

Renewable Fuels generated pre-tax income of $191 million, reversing a loss of $43 million a year earlier. However, earnings declined from $544 million in the preceding quarter due to lower margins, unfavorable inventory impacts and higher costs. Renewable fuel production averaged 47,000 Bbl/d, compared with 53,000 Bbl/d in the preceding quarter.

PSX Strengthens Cash Flow and Balance Sheet

Phillips 66 generated $7.28 billion of operating cash flow during the third quarter. Excluding working-capital movements, operating cash flow totaled $6.19 billion. Consolidated adjusted EBITDA increased to $8.07 billion from $2.59 billion a year earlier.

The company advanced the Coastal Bend expansion, targeting initial volumes in the fourth quarter of 2026 and a full ramp-up to 350,000 Bbl/d in early 2027. It also reached a final investment decision on the Western Gateway Pipeline system, with operations expected in 2029.

Looking ahead, Phillips 66 expects fourth-quarter refining crude utilization in the mid-90% range, with turnaround expenses of $140-$170 million. Global olefins and polyolefins capacity utilization is projected in the mid-80% range. Corporate and Other costs are anticipated at $350-$380 million.
