On its third-quarter 2026 earnings call, held on Oct. 28, 2026, GE Vernova (GEV -1.91%) announced a $9 billion acquisition and expanded its total order backlog to $197 billion. The power equipment manufacturer is positioning itself to capture demand from the global expansion of electric grids and data center growth. Three things management said stand out.
1. Acquiring Trench Group Secures High-Voltage Grid Components
The company agreed to buy Trench Group for $9 billion to vertically integrate manufacturing of essential electrical substation equipment, including bushings for insulation and coils for grid stability. The deal expands internal supply control in its high-voltage transmission segment as global grid demand scales.
Vertically integrating Trench will also give us greater capacity and certainty across a key part of the supply chain, strengthening our ability to deliver for customers.
— Scott Strazik, Chief Executive Officer
2. Gas Power Shipments at Higher Prices Are Expanding Margins
Segment margins reached 21.4% of earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization (EBITDA) during what is typically the lowest period for high-margin service revenue. Higher prices for heavy-duty gas turbine deliveries are beginning to flow through financial results as production scales up.
These margins reflect the first quarter of our 5 gigawatt of gas power equipment shipments at better prices.

3. Management Doubled the Share Repurchase Authorization to $20 Billion
With $17 billion in cash on the balance sheet, management is returning excess capital directly to shareholders while funding acquisitions through a mix of debt and cash. The expanded authorization follows the rapid execution of its previous buyback plan.
In parallel with announcing this $9 billion acquisition, we are announcing a doubling of our stock buyback program from $10 billion to $20 billion.

Looking Ahead
Demand for electric grid infrastructure is accelerating across global markets, and management is positioning the enterprise to capture multiyear equipment orders. Long-term value relies on execution across power equipment delivery schedules, wind segment turnaround, and integration of grid manufacturing assets.
We are still in the early stages of this electricity investment super cycle, and we are working with humility, confidence and conviction to deliver for all stakeholders.
— Scott Strazik, Chief Executive Officer
A record equipment order backlog provides multiyear revenue visibility across gas power and electrification operations as pricing discipline takes hold.
Our growing backlog with increasing margin continues to provide an excellent foundation for further improvement in our financial performance moving forward.
