Now We Know What The Gigawatt Supercycle Actually Means for GE Vernova

Published:

GE Vernova just posted record backlog and raised its cash guidance by billions, yet the stock keeps falling. What the market is missing about the gigawatt supercycle could determine whether this pullback is a warning or a window.

GE Vernova (NYSE:GEV | GEV Price Prediction) trades at $878.71, and its latest quarter showed that the gigawatt supercycle is turning into backlog, pricing power and cash.

GE Vernova sells gas, nuclear, steam and hydro turbines through its Power segment, grid equipment through Electrification, and onshore and offshore turbines through Wind. Third-quarter orders reached $29.3B, up 96% organically, and backlog rose to $197B. Management also raised its 2026 guidance. The stock still fell 1.83% on the day and is down 7.43% over the past month.

Gas Turbine Pricing Turns Gigawatts Into Cash

Third-quarter gas turbine orders were priced more than 20% above fourth-quarter 2025 orders. Pricing per kilowatt on full-year 2026 gas orders should come in approximately 50% higher than 2025. That pricing carried Power’s EBITDA margin to 21.4%. Management now expects at least 130 gigawatts under contract by year-end, up from 83 gigawatts at the start of the year.

Cash is following the orders. Free cash flow guidance rose to $16B-$17B from $11.5B-$12.5B, and the buyback authorization doubled to $20B. Every turbine shipped also builds a services annuity. Management said it expects “every gigawatt of HAs to generate half a billion dollars of high margin services revenue over the first 20 years of its lifetime.”

Rich Multiples and a Money-Losing Wind Unit Cloud the Story

The stock trades at a forward P/E of 35x and an EV/EBITDA of 72x. Electrification orders fell 9% organically, and Wind is still guided to an EBITDA loss of $400-$500M because U.S. onshore demand is soft and Section 232 tariffs remain uncertain. Management also expects fourth-quarter price per kilowatt to land below third-quarter levels.

The $9 billion Trench Group deal requires roughly $4.5 billion of new debt and won’t close until late 2027. Institutional holders also cut exposure. Among tracked investors, 7 of 11 trimmed positions last quarter.

Q4 Order Conversion Is the Swing Factor

Shares are already up 34.77% this year, so much of the good news may be priced in. Execution in Power and Electrification supports the bull case. Wind losses and deal risk keep caution alive. The swing factors are whether backlog tops $200B in Q4 and whether Electrification delivers what management expects to be its largest order quarter of the year.

Analysts See Nearly 40% Upside After the Pullback

The average analyst target of $1,223.97 implies about 39.3% upside across 37 analysts. Targets are one input and can be wrong. The ratings break down as follows:

  • Strong Buy: 6
  • Buy: 24
  • Hold: 7
  • Sell: 0

Year to date, GE Vernova has gained 34.77%, while the S&P 500 is up 13.27%. Over the past month the stock dropped 7.43% as the index added 0.89%. It now trades about 26.5% below its 52-week high of $1,195.24.

GE Vernova’s Supercycle Earnings Lift Is Just Starting

At $878.71, several factors support the bullish case for GE Vernova.

Better-priced gas equipment only began shipping this quarter. Management called the second half of 2026 the right starting point for forecasting Power margins into 2027. That means the earnings lift from higher pricing is just starting, and the company expects especially strong equipment growth in 2027 and 2028. All of that expansion has to be powered somehow, and we rounded up seven suppliers riding the same data-center electricity wave in a free report.

The decline has brought down the stock’s valuation. Management reported no financing challenges, slot reservation cancellations or slowdown in conversion, which suggests underlying demand remains strong. Meanwhile, the company keeps buying back stock and reached its 2028 target of 20% adjusted EBITDA margin in its strongest segments.

The thesis breaks if slot reservations start getting cancelled, gas pricing rolls over or Trench stalls with regulators. Keep an eye on the Q4 backlog figure and early 2027 Power margins.

Backlog keeps growing, pricing keeps rising, and the stock is cheaper than it was a month ago.
