Bloom Energy Sinks 16% Despite 900 MW NTT DATA Deal as Midterm Fears Hit AI Power Stocks

Published:

Key Takeaways

  • Bloom Energy fell 16% today, even after NTT DATA agreed to deploy 900 megawatts of Bloom’s onsite power.
  • Investors fear Democrats’ win in Congress could stall the data-center buildout, and they sold the AI power trade, GE Vernova and Oklo included.
  • Analysts expect Bloom’s normalized EPS to grow more than tenfold from 2025 to 2028, if data centers keep building.
  • The NTT DATA deal, Bloom’s largest international project yet, hedges the U.S. policy risk behind the sell-off.

Bloom Energy (BE) fell 16% today, despite landing its biggest international order yet.

NTT DATA announced before the open that it will deploy 900 megawatts of Bloom’s fuel cells across data-center projects worldwide, with shipments starting in 2027. Investors didn’t care: AI power stocks sank, GE Vernova (GEV) and Oklo (OKLO) among them.

Investors sold the whole trade

Democrats took Congress in the midterms, and investors fear the data-center buildout could stall. It’s the second straight day the AI power stocks have sold off on the election. Texas’s incoming governor, Gina Hinojosa, has promised a moratorium on new data-center approvals.

Few stocks are more exposed than Bloom, which got 97% of its third-quarter revenue in the U.S. So NTT DATA’s order matters: business abroad can keep Bloom growing if American approvals slow.

Analysts are counting on the buildout

Analysts expect Bloom’s normalized EPS to climb from $0.76 in 2025 to $8.24 in 2028:

Those estimates date from Oct. 29, before the election, and analysts have no reason to cut them after today’s order.

Bloom traded at 40x forward earnings before today’s drop, about 34x after it, near the low end of its 29x-145x quarter-end range since late 2023.

Same fear, different exposure

GE Vernova fell 7%, and it has a much bigger cushion: its third-quarter orders rose 96% organically to $29.3 billion, and its backlog hit $197 billion. It’s now taking gas turbine reservations for 2032 delivery, CEO Scott Strazik said on its third-quarter call. That helps Bloom: the longer buyers wait for turbines, the more they need power that can be running on site within months.

Oklo fell 13%, and it has even more riding on the buildout. Analysts expect losses of $0.98 a share this year and $1.06 next year. When it reports on Friday, watch whether any of its data-center deals has become a binding power contract.

Cheaper on the same estimates

The way I see it, Bloom fell on what Washington and Texas might do, and after the drop it’s cheaper on estimates that haven’t moved.

Of course, if new rules do slow data-center approvals, analysts would cut their 2027 and 2028 estimates first. Bloom’s fourth-quarter report in early 2027, with its backlog and its 2027 guidance, is the next real test.
