Eaton (ETN) stock dropped 7.4% on Thursday, November 5, 2026, falling for the second consecutive session while the S&P 500 lost 4.4%. The company issued no announcement, earnings report or filing that day. Two sessions earlier, Eaton reported record third-quarter sales and raised its outlook for 2026. So did Eaton simply go down with the rest of the market on Thursday?

Eaton Fell On A Day Of Wide Market Losses

In direction, yes. Thursday’s market losses reached well beyond one company: the Nasdaq Composite fell 5.5%, more than the S&P 500. Eaton’s most recent news of its own came on November 3, when it reported third-quarter sales of $8.9 billion, up 28% from a year earlier.

Management said on its November 3 call that data centers and distributed IT, along with commercial aerospace, are its strongest markets and make up roughly a third of its sales. During the third quarter, data center sales in its electrical business in the Americas were up 54%.

Did Eaton Fall Harder Than Similar Companies?

Yes. The industrials sector fund XLI fell 4.1% on Thursday, dropping slightly less than the S&P 500. All five companies on Eaton’s Trefis peer list, Emerson Electric, Parker Hannifin, Hubbell, Cummins and Honeywell, declined as well, losing between 2.0% and 5.6%. Eaton moved in the same direction as its sector and its peers, but the stock fell further than both the sector fund and all five of those companies.

Nobody can call the market’s next leg. You can set up for a crash and a rally.

Eaton Stock Now Sits Near Its One-Year Low

A decline of this size is rare for Eaton. The shares had fallen this much only twice in the prior 365 days, most recently the session before, when the stock dropped 9.9%. Both Thursday’s fall and the preceding drop followed a 7.0% gain on November 3, the day the company reported its results.

Thursday’s close of $327.02 left the stock just above its lowest close of the past year, which was $315.82 on December 17, 2025. Its highest close of $459.96 came on August 12, 2026, and much of the slide from that peak is recent. In the month from October 7, the stock lost 24.2%, compared to a 5.7% fall for the S&P 500. Over the past twelve months it has lost 12.5%, while the S&P 500 returned 9.9%.

At Thursday’s close, Eaton traded at 4.0 times its sales over the past twelve months, against 3.2 times for the S&P 500. Eaton is expected to report its fourth-quarter results in February 2027, and growth in its data center sales is the figure to watch.

Does This Mean You Should Act On ETN?

Our purpose is to inform you with unique data so you make the right investment decisions. That said, betting on a single stock is always risky, no matter which direction you choose.

There is a smarter approach. Since its inception, the Trefis High Quality (HQ) Portfolio has returned 105%, beating the benchmark that combines the three major indices – the S&P 500, S&P Mid-cap, and Russell 2000. And it did so without taking the concentrated risk that comes with do-it-yourself stock picking. If that is how you want to invest, the HQ Portfolio is the place to start.
