SLB: 3 Key Takeaways for Long-Term Investors

Published:

On its third-quarter 2026 earnings call, held on Oct. 23, 2026, SLB (SLB -3.72%) announced sequential revenue growth across all of its core operating divisions. The oilfield services giant is expanding into data center cooling technology while building its offshore subsea equipment backlog. This shift provides greater revenue visibility and stabilizes cash flows across commodity cycles.

Three things management said stand out.

1. Production Business Reaches Over Half of Total Portfolio

SLB is shifting its focus toward production recovery and operating expenditure (routine operational spending), which offers steadier returns than exploration spending. This baseline position provides revenue stability across major global basins.

Our production business encompassing all production systems and some of the offerings in Reservoir Performance now represents more than 50% of our portfolio, a leading position across every major basin and advanced mix of short, and long cycle activity including exposure to resilient OpEx spend.
— Olivier Le Peuch, Chief Executive Officer

2. Venezuela Operations Drive Emerging Market Growth

Activity in Venezuela is accelerating as international exploration and production companies (E and Ps) reinvest after years of minimal capital spending. SLB is capitalizing on this rebound to build a multiyear expansion driver in Latin America.

Our revenue in Venezuela is on track to more than double this year, with strong momentum among US and European E and Ps, supporting the potential for multifold growth in 2027.
— Olivier Le Peuch, Chief Executive Officer

3. Data Center Infrastructure Opens New Industrial Markets

Demand for artificial intelligence computing requires extensive thermal management, prompting SLB to expand into non-energy markets. Buying cooling equipment manufacturer Kelvion extends its manufacturing capabilities directly into technology infrastructure.

Upon closing of our previously announced acquisition of Kelvion, the Kelvion portfolio will also benefit greatly from this momentum and will accelerate our ambition to become a leading industrial partner in future AI infrastructure.
— Olivier Le Peuch, Chief Executive Officer

Looking Ahead

Deepwater developments and automated drilling software are expanding international opportunities across key regions. SLB uses automated systems and specialized subsea equipment to secure multiyear contracts while tracking Middle East geopolitical stability.

Looking across these dynamics, long cycle offshore developments, renewed exploration, digital adoption, and US operators expanding globally. All confirm durable multiyear international investment cycle with clear visibility into 2027 and beyond.
— Olivier Le Peuch, Chief Executive Officer

Expanding beyond oilfield services into data center thermal management gives the company an additional long-term growth driver.

These dynamics reinforce the confidence in delivering differentiated growth and outperformance as we move into 2027.
— Olivier Le Peuch, Chief Executive Officer
